After a three-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were thrilled to see so many members of the local community, supporters and our partners enjoy the return of the CSL Fun Run and ZCP Carnivore Cup Final on Saturday 17 June 2023. More than 6,000 people took part in a wide range of activities in the grounds of Mfuwe Airport. The day began very early with a 10km run and new for this year, a 20km run to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Well done to everyone who took part, including Ester from the CSL human-wildlife conflict team who ran 10km in 50 minutes! Other activities included a 50m sack race and egg and spoon race, as well as a 100m three-legged race and sprint. Congratulations to the Zambian Air Force for winning the tug of war in the final against Zambia National Airports. It was great to see the enthusiasm from teams as they took part in volleyball, netball and ZCP football tournaments too. We also enjoyed lively performances from the SEKA drama group and other traditional dances. The day ended with a speech from the District Commissioner and prize giving. The day was an opportunity to come together to celebrate, understand and value the importance of conservation efforts in South Luangwa. Thank you Elephant Charge and Milkywire for kindly sponsoring the event. Thank you also to CSL Board member Evans Graph on the sports committee for coordinating the day and Mjose Jozie for the photographs. We look forward to next year’s Fun Run and Carnivore Cup Final.
