The Wildlife Ranger Challenge (WRC) is a global campaign led by CSL’s valued donor and partner, Tusk, in collaboration with Game Rangers Association of Africa. The WRC is the world’s largest celebration of solidarity, support and fundraising for the ranger profession. More than 100 teams of rangers spanning the African continent compete every year in a series of challenges from June to September, culminating in a coordinated 21 km race in September.

Thanks to the generous support from donors and partners, CSL were the top fundraisers in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, CSL raised nearly $300,000 to support rangers on the frontline of conservation in South Luangwa. In the same year, CSL was proud to learn that its Atsikana (women) team won the women’s Wildlife Ranger 21 km Challenge.

Make a donation

Your donations help to fund salaries, uniforms, equipment and delivery of intensive training for more than 100 rangers, enabling them to continue protecting the wildlife and habitats of South Luangwa. Here’s how your donation can make a difference:

$40 could equip a ranger with a pair of patrol boots.
$250 could provide fuel, food and first aid supplies for a 10-day anti-poaching patrol with six rangers.
$2,000 could provide the annual salary for one ranger, enabling them to support themselves and their families with medical needs and education for their children.

To make a gift, visit CSL’s fundraising page on the WRC website. If you would like to donate more than $1,000 (or £1,000), please email julie@tusk.org who can provide direct payment details to avoid online platform fees. Please email Julie if you are a UK donor and would like to make a Gift Aid declaration. The fundraising page closes on Monday 30 September 2024.

Take part in the challenges

Wherever you are in the world, you could raise vital funds for wildlife rangers by getting involved with one of the following activities. Encourage friends, family and work colleagues as part of a team-building exercise to take part too. See how you compare to CSL ranger teams!

Train like a ranger
How many push-ups and sit-ups do you think you can do in two minutes?

Race with rangers
Join our rangers on race day by running the half marathon. If running is not your strength, you can race by other means, such as walking, swimming or cycling. Or perhaps test your fitness levels by completing the WRC 2.4 km time trial without weight.

Test your ranger knowledge
Do you think you have the knowledge of a ranger? Rangers require a broad knowledge of wildlife and ecosystems to help them carry out their work. Take the quiz on the WRC website. There are 24 questions to complete.

By taking part in these challenges, CSL would be grateful for a suggested donation of $25 per person. This donation could provide a first aid kit in case a ranger is injured whilst on anti-poaching patrol.

Share your photos and videos with CSL on social media with the hashtags #TrainLikeARanger and #ForWildlifeRangers and CSL will re-post them on social media channels.
